Think of all the hate there is in Red China!
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama!

Stand in support of Israel ... against terror!
The conflict between Hezbollah terrorists and Israel is quickly escalating to an all-out war. And as we well know from experience, when terrorists are allowed to thrive in any nation, we are ALL THREATENED. Any attack on Israel is an attack on freedom — and freedom attacked anywhere is freedom attacked everywhere. This is why we must form a united front and stand in support of Israel and their fight for freedom ... NOW. Proclamation for Solidarity
Talk about intercultural misperceptions! This whole Israeli-Arab conflict is really interesting from the perspective of the US because it's so skewed. More people have died in Iraq during the last 3 years (50,000 Iraq civilians and 2,500+ US troops) than have ever died in the Israeli-Arab conflict on both sides during its 58-year duration. Just yesterday, the Baghdad morgue counted 92 new corposes... in one day!! One of them was a sheep herder who went to pickup the severed head of a teenage girl lying in his field. Her decapitated head exploded when he touched it because the girl's head was rigged, and the sheep herder's life is now just a statistic.
Israel has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world ($24k annually) and the US gives them $2.5 B in aid each year and Lebanon receives $40 M in aid despite 3/4 of the citizens in Lebanon are below poverty level ($6k annual income on average).
I totally support the right of Israel to defend itself. That's not what I'm posting about at all. What I'm posting about is the lack of perspective we as US citizens have on the world as a whole... me included.
We (as I said, me included) are so concerned about the Israel tensions and I am too, but what about all the people dying in Iraq? What are we doing about that? Not much it seems.
People here at work say the media is to blame. We are building new roads, new schools, etc. in Iraq and the media never talks about that. Well, what good are those new things when Iraqi citizens live in great fear and are turning into corpses??
I think part of this is the mind-numbing nature of the violence in Iraq. Part of it, too, though is parallel to the lack of action on the part of our government in response to Katrina last year. We lack the leadership with the guts and will power to do the things necessary to make the world a better place. Instead of doing the right thing, easier, short-term solutions that placate the political masses are what gets done.
